Keep Kids Alive! Drive 25!

Keep Kids Alive! Drive 25!

As I thought about and developed this blog, I knew it could not be all fun and games. Yes, there are some very silly holidays, such as International Nose Picking Day!  However, there are so many days of the year that are set aside for observance and awareness.  These days are meant for taking action and making new commitments to help make the world a better place.

Today we will talk about Keep Kids Alive, Drive 25 Day.  May 1st, 2019 is the perfect day to be a positive change agent.  You have the ability to take action in so many ways that will help make the roads safer, not just for kids, but for all drivers, pedestrians, passengers, cyclists, and or course children in your neighborhood.  "What can I do?" you ask?  Well, let's talk about that now...

KEEP KIDS ALIVE, DRIVE 25 DAY

Today we make sure that we stay aware
Of keeping kids safe when they go here or there.
Though we must remember this lesson each day,
And make certain we always have a safe place to play!

So why celebrate "Keep Kids Alive" Day at all?
To remind us of dangers, both big and small.
If we work together keeping kids safe & secure,
Then we can make positive changes for sure!

Let's take a look at a fact or two.
These may surprise you, but they are all true.
Over half of those in car crashes who don't survive
Forgot to buckle, which could've kept them alive.

If you someone's unbuckled don't freeze (or melt)!
Just save a life and say, "Buckle up that belt!"
And you can always say, "slow down, there's no need to dash,
Because speeding drivers are 3 times more likely to crash!

Today we take action to keep kids safe and alive.
And one way to do this is slow down when we drive.
Every street has a speed limit you must not exceed
Today 25 miles per hour is everyone's target speed.

Why else might we want to slow down when we drive?
To respect the safety of people walking who must also survive.
For these folks, called pedestrians, crossing the street can be dire,
Especially if the speed limit is 30 miles or higher!

One simple fact that we must mention today
Is how important when driving to not look away.
That means if you see mom driving while drinking a pop,
You may politely say, "That's not safe, mom, will you please stop?"

Or what if Dad is driving and texting on his phone?
Tell him, "No phone while driving. That law is well-known!"
But always always always be very polite
When reminding an adult of what's wrong and what's right.

Today's special holiday is really great!
I can't think of a better reason to celebrate.
And remember, "Keep Kids Alive! Drive 25!" isn't just for today.
It's something we should celebrate every single day.
